Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Research Project Coordinator will contribute to research and technology development efforts by establishing and improving current screening and detection products for cancer.  This position will coordinate internal and external collaborative projects, timelines, priorities, and specimen transport and tracking across multiple Exact Sciences locations. This position will assist with some lab experiments and will perform administrative duties such as preparation of meeting agendas, documentation of meeting minutes, and project-related activities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain awareness of all projects in portfolio and their status.
  • Coordinate activities and communications with both internal and external collaborators and project managers.
  • Chair and facilitate meetings where appropriate; distribute minutes to project team members.
  • Keep project management related information organized and available to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Identify internal and external stakeholders and maintain communication matrix.
  • Provide oversight of the purchase order and approval process to ensure that correct approvals and visibility is obtained in a timely manner.
  • Conduct lab tasks and experiments; analyze data and evaluate results.
  • Document and organize key project information; follow up on important actions and decisions from meetings.
  • Track incoming research samples and materials.
  • Track technical goals, milestones, and deliverables for the research teams.
  • Manage issues and action items collaborating directly with team members to ensure completion.
  • Schedule meetings and prepare agenda and minutes.
  • Maintain up-to-date list of core team members, extended teams, and stakeholders for projects in the Advanced Research and Technology portfolio.
  • Coordinate and provide communication updates to user groups, management, and project teams.
  • Ensure that any problems that may cause deviation from the technical specifications or project schedule are reported immediately.
  • Provide administrative support for onsite and offsite meetings with collaborators.
  • Support larger projects and may lead some small-sized projects.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders and team members.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple competing priorities within and across multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with group members to meet team objectives.
  • Ability to work within a matrix management organization.

  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, pipettes for extended periods of time.
  • May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
  • Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.
  • Ability and means to travel between local Exact Sciences locations.
  • Ability to travel 15% of working time away from work location, may include international and overnight/weekend travel.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or field related to the essential duties of the job.
  • 2+ years of work experience in the life science research field.
  • Demonstrated success in providing support/coordination to technical teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform common molecular biology techniques such as blood processing, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and nucleic acid purification.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects.
  • Demonstrated understanding of molecular biology techniques and/or life science research.
  • Excellent mathematics skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office; including Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of cancer biology and research.
  • 4+ years of work experience in the life science research field.
