Summary of Major Responsibilities

As a member of the Data Services team, the Data Engineer will have the opportunity to affect how well data is used in business operations and to drive business decisions. They will provide technical expertise and become experts of the data generated and used by business systems. With a commitment to continuous improvement, they will be responsible for growing data reliability and capabilities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with data exchange partners and those within the business that depend on or affect data
  • Provide expertise in data transfer, management, and usage
  • Learn about existing data systems and transfer knowledge of them
  • Contribute to data engineering initiatives like data transformation, analysis, visualization, and reporting
  • Expand monitoring, automated testing, deployments, and other data operations
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for troubleshooting, resolving, and determining root cause of production data incidents
  • Monitor and recommend enhancements to the technical architecture to keep pace with changing business demands and scale
  • Lead efforts to analyze, troubleshoot and tune solution performance
  • Work with Information Technology management and staff to develop and maintain standards, processes, and documentation
  • Act as a resource for staff by providing insight, recommendations, and assistance with technical and non-technical questions
  • Promote the role and capabilities of IT to enhance the professional development of all Exact Sciences staff through example, recommendation, and accommodation
  • Works independently with little oversight and direction
  • Special projects as business needs require

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Three years of relational database development or administration
  • Experience working with SQL for data exploration, debugging, and performant data access
  • Proven ability to work within a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Proficient in all MS Office applications including Excel, and Word
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to operate in a cross cultural and complex matrix environment, and ability to build consensus across functions
  • Adaptable, open to change and able to work in ambiguous situations and respond to new information or unexpected circumstances

Desired Characteristics

  • Demonstrated ownership of ETL processes
  • Dimensional and transactional database modeling, data warehousing
  • Experience with data transaction monitoring and administration, including automated testing
  • Tableau or other data visualization / BI tool
  • Ability to program / script
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, SSMS, T-SQL stored procedures, SSIS
  • SSRS or other reporting tool
  • Knowledge of EDI (e.g. 940, 945, 240), HL7, and web services
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics CRM
  • Domain knowledge of healthcare (lab, clinical, billing) and operations (shipping) and Operations
  • Exposure to or experience with custom software applications

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in an office setting, operate telephony devices, and a computer.
