Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Medical Information Specialist serves as the frontline clinical subject matter expert in support of the medical inquire process. This role is responsible for providing direct support to the medical inquiry process. The management of medical information is a core function of the Medical Affairs department with strong cross-functional alignment.

 

The Medical Information Specialist reports to the Manager of Medical Information.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as the frontline specialist for engaging healthcare provider and/or delegate customers in clinical dialogue that results from medical inquiries through the customer care team and medical affairs team.
  • Utilizes appropriate information resources to provide timely, accurate, thorough and balanced responses to unsolicited requests for information from internal and external customers in accordance with internal policies and regulatory guidelines (PhRMA, AdvaMed)
  • Documents healthcare provider interactions with the appropriate detail in the designated database
  • Manages Medical Information workflows and ensures adherence to SOPs
  • Collaborates with Medical Writer & Content Manager in the development and updating of standard clinical replies and FAQs approved by regulatory and compliance
  • Collaborates with the Medical Information Specialist –SFE to ensure that all clinical information and product information is harmonized and consistent.
  • Identifies emerging medical inquiry topics as well as inquiries for which standard responses do not exist and raises awareness to Medical Affairs and Laboratory leadership (i.e., identifies needs for future standard responses)
  • Establishes and maintains a SOP and process to capture and share customer insights with relevant business partners such as (but not limited to) Sales, Marketing, Training and Compliance
  • Utilizes clinical, scientific and technical information to respond to information inquiries from healthcare providers, consumers, field staff and internal stakeholders
  • Assists with and contributes to other scientific communications and Medical Affairs activities
  • Responds to requests received directly from HCPs/consumers as well as those facilitated by field facing representatives
  • Interacts with Field and Inside Sales, Provider Support Specialists, Customer Care Associates and others to expedite the handling/completion of medical information requests (for HCPs and consumers).
  • Maintains knowledge base of evolving medical evidence and ensures that all inquiries are responded to in a comprehensive and timely manner
  • Assists in the maintenance of key resource documents for the Medical Affairs team, including but not limited to, internal contact lists and work processes, SOPs
  • Demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload and employ efficient time management strategies when performing medical information activities
  • Conducts business in accordance with Exact Sciences’ values
  • Completes all assigned trainings and professional development requirements

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • BSN or BS/MS in life sciences
  • 5 years of experience in related field of expertise
  • Preferred: GI experience; previous education and training experience; previous call center experience; knowledge of US regulatory standards related to communication and dissemination of medical information
