Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Software Engineering Intern will assist in the development of Exact Sciences software.  The position is intended to be a part-time opportunity for an engineering or science undergraduate to obtain hands-on software development experience in web development and beyond while contributing to the mission of Exact Sciences to eradicate cancer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of software applications.
  • Assist Software Engineers in the development of new software.
  • Assist Software Engineers in maintaining current software.
  • Debug and write unit tests for software.


Mandatory Skills

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Basic knowledge of Computer Science and basic algorithms.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Java and Python.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Be able to work productively in a team environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Programming experience in Java, Python, Linux, Javascript, and HTML/CSS.
  • Knowledge of web development and web application frameworks.
  • Experience using repositories for source code management.

Education and Experience

  • Enrollment towards Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree.
  • Preference given to candidates with a record of outstanding academic achievement.

Physical Requirements

  • May be required to lift up to 25lbs on an infrequent basis up to 20% of the time.
