Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Staff Accountant position reports to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for maintaining general ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This includes creating financial transactions and creating financial reports from that information. This includes evaluating transactions for proper classification and making decisions regarding the posting of the transactions. The Staff Accountant also reconciles accountants to ensure their accuracy. In addition, the Staff Accountant assists with establishing policies and procedures for purchasing and financial reporting, and helps maintain the Company’s Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) 404 compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain accounting policies and procedures that are in compliance with applicable government regulations (SOX,GAAP, IFRS)
  • Manage the processing of cash receipts, recording of revenue and receivable and work closely with the billing team to ensure that revenues and receivables are reconciled at any given time
  • Perform daily cash and bank reconciliation report and record corresponding journal entries
  • Perform general account analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, accruals, and prepaid expenses
  • Ensure that general ledger accounts are reconciled to subsidiary records on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy
  • Assist in financial statement preparation through account classifications and transactional coding
  • Assemble information for external auditors for the annual audit
  • Calculate and issue financial analysis of the financial statements
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements
  • From time to time engage in assignments for upper management to address long term planning and risk assessments

Qualifications

Mandatory Skills

  • Knowledge of SOX compliance, bookkeeping and GAAP
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software Suite
  • Ability to interact, coordinate and communicate effectively with internal staff and external vendors

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience
  • Experience with SAP is strongly preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time and up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to sit for an extended period of time
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and up to 6 hours at a time
  • Ability to travel (by land and air), both domestically and internationally, on occasion
  • Ability to frequently and accurately communicate with employees, customers, and vendors in person, via the telephone or by email
  • Ability to speak on the telephone and write simultaneously
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis
