  • Summary of Major Responsibilities

    The Senior Manager, Logistics Operations has responsibility for a variety of logistics related activities and works closely with Business Development, Commercial Operations, Sales, Manufacturing, Marketing, Procurement, Supply Chain, Warehouse and Distribution, IT, and external partners including shippers and suppliers to develop and execute strategies for world class logistics. Responsibilities include carrier selection, qualification, and management; inbound and outbound logistics operations supporting both intra-company and international activities, as well as creation of logistics policies and procedures supporting existing and pipeline products.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Drive establishment of world class logistics processes throughout the organization, including creation of policies or procedures for logistics activities
    • Establish new, and manage existing 3PL partnerships support critical logistics needs for the organization
    • Direct inbound or outbound logistics operations, including establishment of optimal processes for intra-company and intra-warehouse movement of materials
    • Resolve problems concerning transportation, logistics systems, imports or exports, or customer issues
    • Build and continually improve global logistics functional competencies; provide global logistics expertise to key initiatives cross-functionally
    • Participate in carrier management processes, such as selection, qualification, or ongoing performance management
    • Negotiate transportation rates or services, including sea and air freight quotes. Analyze all aspects of corporate logistics to determine the most cost-effective or efficient means of transporting products or materials
    • Supervise the work of Logistics Operations staff, act as subject matter expert and train others on domestic and international shipping logistics
    • Evaluate and recommend packaging solutions for shipment of samples or new products
    • Recommend purchase of new or improved technology, such as automated systems
    • Develop risk management processes to ensure continuity of supply in emergency scenarios


    Mandatory Skills

    • Proven ability to lead and participate in team environment in a fast paced environment with aggressive deadlines
    • Proven ability to influence without direct authority; previous management of 3PL and carrier relationships
    • Advanced knowledge of international logistics procedures
    • Ability to create and design solutions to increase overall efficiency
    • Awareness and appreciation of different cultures
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

     Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in a biotech manufacturing environment, preferably in a GMP and/or ISO 13485 environment
    • Cold chain distribution practices
    • Experience with SAP

     Education and Experience

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in logistics in a global environment
    • A/B.S. in business, finance, supply chain management, manufacturing, global logistics, or other related studies
    • Demonstrated experience in managing a global logistics operation
    • Experience in a healthcare global logistics role OR healthcare logistics with a global footprint
    • Experience leading and motivating cross-functional teams
    • Proven analytic capabilities, including financial and budgetary planning, analysis and reporting skills

     Physical Requirements

    • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time and up to 8 hours per day
    • Ability to sit or stand for an extended period-of-time
    • Some travel may be required
