  • Summary of Major Responsibilities

    The Senior Maintenance Technician/Electrician is responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing as well as adjusting electrical equipment, sensors, controls, wiring systems, and industrial processing systems used in production, laboratory, office and utility spaces located within office, Lab, R&D, and GMP manufacturing locations. Additionally, this position supports automation equipment like fill, cap, and labeling, conveying, and product finishing equipment and performs maintenance and troubleshooting. This is a multi-skilled electrical maintenance position at Exact Sciences.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide technical support and expertise for building infrastructure, systems, and controls to maintain efficient and reliable operation, including the completion of accurate and up-to-date GMP documentation.
    • Provide technical support and expertise for all automated equipment as required.
    • Provide assistance and participate on projects that involve building system modifications or new equipment.
    • Responds to Shop Work Orders in performing maintenance and repair tasks in a safe manner.
    • Implements and improves preventive maintenance procedures.
    • Determines parts, tools, and supplies necessary for the jobs.
    • Willingness to learn and expand tradecraft skills.
    • Perform work in accordance with practices, priorities and assignments as directed.
    • Execute preventive maintenance and demand maintenance tasks.
    • Participate in the on-call program for emergency service.
    • Analyze, diagnose and repair equipment documenting work as required by the Quality Management System.
    • Self-perform all monitoring, repair, and maintenance on all electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems and equipment or coordinate the services of contractors and/or the landlord.
    • Conduct building inspections to assess the current operational condition, document findings, and take appropriate follow up action.
    • Respond to critical alarms.
    • React to loss of electrical power and other utility outages, as well as assist in restoration efforts following weather related events.
    • Ensure contractor compliance with EHS policies and procedures, including hot work and lock out tag out.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Uphold and role model safety procedures and safe practices.
    • Recommend changes to equipment to improve safety, performance, and reliability.
    • Follow standard operating procedures (SOP).


    Mandatory Skills

    • Must be flexible to changing production needs and must be willing to adjust work schedule as required to meet departmental and company production objectives.
    • Good verbal and written communication skills and customer service oriented.
    • Proven ability for problem solving and trouble shooting.
    • Independent self-starter with positive attitude and above average organizational skills.
    • Knowledge of power distribution and motor control censors.
    • Experience working with AC & DC variable speed motor controls.
    • Experience working with PLCs and Process Controls.
    • Experience operating hand tools, small power tools, multi-meters and various test equipment.
    • Experience reading blueprints, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals and troubleshooting problems to make adjustments and repairs.
    • Experience working with voltages between 0-480 volts and structured wiring.
    • Experience sizing and installing new electrical components and associated wire and conduit.
    • Experience running and installing structured wiring.
    • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Adaptable, open to change, able to work in ambiguous situations and respond to new information and unexpected circumstances required.
    • Demonstrated attention to detail required.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license, have no more than 2 moving violations in the past 36 months, and have no unresolved revocation or suspension issues.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Minimum 10 years’ experience in equipment maintenance or related field.
    • Experience in regulated environment, e.g., ISO 13485, FDA GMP, or USDA.
    • Documents work activities in the work order CMMS.
    • Experience in repair and maintenance of automated equipment.
    • Experience with ladder logic programming.

    Education and Experience

    • Associates degree in electrical, mechanical maintenance or similar program.
    • Five to ten (5-10) years of experience in industrial electrical maintenance.
    • Ability to obtain Wisconsin Master electrician license within established period OR possess a current and valid Wisconsin Master electrician license.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical rules and regulations as stipulated in the National Electrical Code and locate electrical codes.
    • Current NFPA 70e certification training or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment.
