Summary of Major Responsibilities

Exact Sciences is the developer of Cologuard, the non-invasive stool-based DNA test for colorectal cancer. While the company remains focused on turning Cologuard into a blockbuster, we are actively developing additional diagnostic tests that are broadly focused on using liquid biopsy to detect cancer.

 

The Senior Technical Product Manager (STPM) helps drive product development for new products. This position works closely with R&D, operations, quality assurance, clinical affairs, and regulatory to develop a new product from feasibility to FDA approval. The STPM is focused on the development of the product itself. Thus, the technology platform, laboratory workflows, labeling, assay configuration etc. are the focus of this position. Additionally, the STPM must develop an in-depth understanding of the clinical utility of the product and support early product positioning and go-to-market-strategy. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding collaboration and project management skills including the ability to manage without authority, communicate effectively with R&D and Operations teams and external partners, and be able to think strategically.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help the lead the development of new laboratory diagnostic tests for Exact Sciences
  • Represent the ‘voice-of-the-customer’ throughout the technical development of new products, which includes the technology platform, laboratory workflows, labeling, and assay configuration
  • Drive the analysis of decisions related to the product design, including cost, customer impact, and manufacturing complexity
  • Conduct market research as necessary to support those product design decisions
  • Act as the commercial representative on the technical design of new products
  • Ensure awareness of and communicate relevant market and industry trends, FDA regulations, competitor products, and leading marketing strategies related to laboratory testing to ensure our product remains competitive.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (life science, engineering, marketing, business, or related field of study)
  • Minimum of 8 years of commercial, R&D, or lab operations experience in the Diagnostic, Biotech, or Medical Device areas.
  • Experience working with R&D to develop new FDA or CLIA regulated products
  • Ability to manage and prioritize strategies, initiatives and workload proactively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Ability to motivate and lead teams of cross-functional resources in a matrixed organization with competing priorities, with or without direct authority or reporting relationships
  • Exceptional project management skills including coordination, communication and adherence to budget and completion goals, prioritization and troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated qualitative and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Adaptable, open to change, and able to work in ambiguous situations with some direction and respond to new information and unexpected circumstances
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office products
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time

Desired Characteristics

  • MBA or MS in relevant field
  • Previous experience with continuous improvement, lean, or six sigma initiatives
  • PMP Certification or project management experience
