Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Security Specialist works under the direction of the Corporate Security Manager to supervise, mentor, and train the Corporate Security team, ensuring Corporate Security functions are carried out in a manner that supports departmental and company guidelines, policies, and procedures. The Security Specialist assists in the monitoring and integrity of the electronic surveillance and access control systems used on Exact Sciences premises, and allocates security resources appropriately based on company and departmental needs. The Security Specialist works with security staff to develop security and risk management plans for Exact Sciences facilities as well as networking and building relationships with employees across all departments and business units to ensure the security of company employees, visitors, and assets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assembling, documenting, and detailed reporting of security incidents and abnormal occurrences on any Exact Sciences site.
  • Ensuring timely completion of administrative functions such as, Daily Activity Reports, Incident Reports, logs, etc. and maintain those records in accordance with policies
  • Coordinate, schedule, and supervise the Exact Sciences Corporate Security Department training program
  • Oversee and supervise the Security Operations Center (SOC), SOC employees, and ensure proper 24/7/365 operation
  • Oversee and ensure the integrity of all security equipment, including CCTV and access control systems, ensuring they are in proper working condition and in compliance with Corporate Security policies and procedures and industry standards
  • Recommend a variety of training programs to assist in employee growth.
  • Assist in employee discipline process when required
  • Oversee the selection, orientation, development and retention of security officer employees with assistance from the Corporate Security Manager, ensuring Exact Sciences’ facilities have highly-qualified team members properly trained to carry out their objectives
  • Network and coordinate with local law enforcement agencies regarding investigations and participate in crime prevention efforts
  • Monitor the operational effectiveness of all security resources in delivery of services, and with the assistance of the Corporate Security Manager, recommend and implement necessary program changes to meet or exceed Exact Sciences’ goals and objectives
  • Ensure Exact Sciences’ facilities are fully staffed with security officers in accordance with all scheduling and staff requirements, including any extra security assignments as needed
  • Promote professionalism and integrity within the Exact Sciences community
  • Maintain ongoing, positive communications with all other Exact Sciences team members
  • Assist in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of physical/facilities security policies, standards, guidelines and procedures to ensure ongoing maintenance of security protocols
  • Assist in the deployment and ongoing maintenance of security technology and tools
  • Participate in the company’s crisis management efforts, including crisis planning and response
  • Participate in programs to address travel risk issues
  • Conduct and oversee site vulnerability and threat assessments and provides recommendations to the Corporate Security Manager, HR, Legal, and other business units
  • Supervise major investigations, working with the Corporate Security Manager to implement solutions to internal control issues identified during investigations; provides testimony if appropriate

Occasional Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Up to 10% travel may be required
  • Travel between local Madison-based buildings is required daily

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of three years of experience in Corporate Security, the Military, or Law Enforcement with an emphasis on leading teams
  • Two years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Security certification preferred
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing industry-standard security equipment, including but not limited to access control and CCTV systems, alarms and security incident reporting and dispatching software.
  • Knowledge and experience conducting facility risk assessments and implementing corrective action.
  • Ability to effectively lead and coordinate daily work activities of staff providing direction and support of all functions.
  • Ability to effectively schedule officers, adhering to departmental budget and scheduling based on departmental and company business needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use and wear safety protective gear/equipment (e.g. safety glasses, hard hat, lab coat, gloves, respirator, etc.) and follow safety guideline
  • Ability to properly and safely utilize all issued security-specific equipment, including issued self-defensive equipment and tools
  • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time and up to 8 hours per day
  • Ability to sit for an extended period
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and up to 6 hours at a time
  • Ability to travel (by land and air), on occasion
  • Ability to frequently and accurately communicate with employees, customers, and vendors in person, via the telephone or by email
  • Constant walking or motion to coordinate work and interact with co-workers
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
