Pipette Calibration Technician

Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Pipette Technician is responsible for performing calibration, maintenance and repair on pipetting devices including, but not limited to, single and multi-channel pipettes, bottle top dispensers and repeater pipettes.  This role will demonstrate a high level of organization, the ability to multi task, and build a level of trust with internal and external customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean, repair and calibrate pipetting devices.
  • Responsible for documentation of calibration and preparation of calibration reports.
  • Maintain equipment data in a CMMS database.
  • Maintain company tools, equipment and parts inventory.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Occasional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to travel locally between Exact Sciences locations.
  • Performing equipment calibrations when necessary due to business needs.


Mandatory Skills

  • Experience with pipette calibration and repair.
  • Strong documentation skills and attention-to-detail necessary in a GMP regulated environment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in team situations as well as independently.
  • Ability to interact, coordinate and communicate effectively with internal staff and external vendors.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Hands on experience with equipment qualification.
  • Experience in a biotech manufacturing environment, preferably in a GMP and/or ISO13485 environment.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025:2005 and 21 CFR Part 820 requirements in regards to inspection, measuring and test equipment
  • Minimum of 1 year of pipette calibration and/or calibration laboratory experience. 
  • High school diploma or general educational development (GED)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to utilize lab equipment for up to 6 hours per day.
  • Ability to use and wear safety protective gear/equipment (e.g. safety glasses, lab coat, gloves, etc.) and follow safety guidelines.
  • Ability to work with hazardous or flammable materials (e.g. chemicals, electrical equipment) so as not to endanger oneself or others.
  • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time and up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to sit for an extended period of time
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to travel (by land and air), both domestically and internationally, on occasion.
  • Ability to frequently and accurately communicate with employees, customers, and vendors in person, via the telephone or by email.
  • Constant walking or motion to coordinate work and interact with co-workers.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Regularly sets up, adjusts, assembles, controls, tests, positions and operates objects equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
