Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Technical Sourcing Specialist is a liaison between the Operations team and Exact Sciences’ approved and potential suppliers. A solid science or engineering background and passion for supply chain is required for this role. The scope of work will vary, but will require working with a diverse team of cross-functional stakeholders. The Technical Sourcing Specialist is expected to provide leadership in the procurement elements of a project with an understanding of the technical requirements.  Areas of focus include supplier evaluation, negotiation, and monitoring as well as supply risk management, request for proposals (RFPs), support for new product initiatives, and technical troubleshooting with suppliers. This role requires a persistent and eager individual to find solutions that meet Exact Sciences’ operational needs, building a robust supply chain in a rapidly growing company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with strategic suppliers when opportunities arise and technical support/follow up is required.
  • Attend cross-functional meetings to support new product initiatives and product support.
  • Provide updates to stakeholders to ensure all are aware of ongoing initiatives and projects with suppliers.
  • Develop RFPs with input from cross-functional areas.
  • Analyze proposal responses with cross-functional teams.
  • Identify and evaluate backup and alternate suppliers based on business needs.
  • Provide technical information to suppliers to support investigations.
  • Drive follow up with suppliers to meet aggressive timelines.
  • Assist with development and implementation of strategic supply chain initiatives, including cost savings initiatives and secondary sourcing.
  • Engage in contract negotiations to drive year over year costs savings.
  • Assist with supply agreement negotiations.
  • Assist with supplier management related to the quality system and annual reviews.
  • Host supplier visits both onsite and via teleconference.
  • Visit and participate in audits of suppliers as needed.
  • Complete periodic benchmarking to maintain price competitiveness.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by leadership.
  • This position may focus on the management of our molding and external assembly suppliers and the expansion of those production capabilities.
  • This position may focus on the suppliers that support our instrument production and mitigation of the risks that my exist in that supply chain.

Qualifications

Mandatory Skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with multi-level personnel as well as vendors and their representatives.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly develop and maintain strong relationships with customers.
  • Dedicated team player who is able to withstand the high demands of a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written, organizational, and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage the financial aspects of a project through the procure to pay process.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and deal with changing priorities while maintaining personal effectiveness.
  • Powerful negotiation skills and ability to find an appropriate balance to cost savings with partners.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering or related field.
  • Five or more years related work experience, with at least 2 year’s in supply chain, buying or planning.
  • Detailed knowledge of GMP facilities, equipment, and processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of professional industry experience.
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
  • Experience with contract management and negotiations.
  • Experience with injection molding and/or instrument assembly.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to sit for an extended period of time.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Ability to frequently and accurately communicate with team members both internal and external in person, via the telephone or by email.
  • Ability to travel between office locations in Madison, Wisconsin (approximately 8 mile radius).
