  • Summary of Major Responsibilities

    The Assistant Litigation Paralegal performs a variety of legal support duties relating to the company’s litigation and risk management efforts, especially as to billing and reimbursement.  This position regularly interfaces with legal team members, other employees, and third parties with whom the company interacts to gather and exchange information.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Be a connection between legal and the billing and reimbursement team to conduct analysis of data and trends related to insurance payor performance. Handle details of a highly confidential, critical and time sensitive nature, including patient information. 
    • Work with litigation counsel to develop and revise legal strategy as to appeals and other legal efforts related to billing and reimbursement.
    • Be able to identify and isolate trends from payor reimbursement data and use those trends to inform analysis as to future legal strategy.
    • Research laws and regulations related to relevant legal issues, including insurance billing and reimbursement in government payor programs and as to commercial insurance.
    • Maintain clear and complete records related to legal’s efforts with insurance payors and appeals activity.
    • Communicate with patients, physicians and insurance companies related to billing and reimbursement issues and trends.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by legal management.

    Occasional Duties and Responsibilities

    • Preparation and review of external communications related to pending legal issues.

    • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and effectively connect with others; approachable & viewed as a responsive resource for employees and leaders.

    Education and Experience

    • Paralegal’s Certificate from ABA approved program strongly preferred; significant, substantive related experience may be considered in lieu of formal paralegal education.
    • At least one (1) year of experience as a paralegal, preferably in litigation area.
    • Experience working in or with health insurance industry a strong plus.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time and up to 8 hours per day.
    • Ability to sit for an extended period of time.
    • Ability to frequently and accurately communicate with employees, insurance payors, customers, etc. face-to-face, via the telephone or by email.
