  • Summary of Major Responsibilities

    The Project Manager, Organization Engineering will both directly and indirectly manage cross-functional projects ensuring business objectives are met and accomplished on time, within budget and meeting quality standards. This will include partnering with business leaders who are managing projects to share best practices and develop effective strategies to deliver on the business’s needs.  Acts as a change agent to drive adoption of project management best practices throughout the organization by developing, implementing and training cross-functional leaders and teams on project management processes and tools.  This position reports to the Sr Manager Organization Engineering.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Manage execution of the project:

    • Lead project team to accomplish project goals.
    • Act as a problem solver to drive decisions.
    • Consult with management, and review project proposals to determine goals, time frame, funding limitations, and procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of resources.
    • Identify and schedule project deliverables, milestones and required tasks.
    • Prepare status reports, and modify schedules and plans as required.
    • Keep management, team, and business areas informed of project status and related issues.
    • Coordinate and respond to requests for changes from original specifications.
    • Monitor project results against specifications.
    • Develop quality assurance test plans.
    • Direct quality assurance testing.
    • Follow established project management practices, including management of scope, requirements, issues, and risks.
    • Create MS Project schedule, and utilize the schedule to communicate and manage the work.
    • Manage project budget.
    • Ensure that all required project management deliverables are created and accurate.
    • Prepare project for governance gate approvals.

    Manage expectations of the sponsors and executive team:

    • Establish positive working relationships with stakeholders and team members.
    • Engage internal business resources to understand business objectives and to translate into delivery plans.
    • Understand how leveraged applications provide competitive advantage.
    • Develop and gain agreement with stakeholders on project plans and budgets.
    • Communicate plans, status, and issues to higher levels of management.

    Driving Adoption to PM Best Practices

    • Partners with project teams to help define the project objectives and employ the right level of governance and process.
    • Mentors new Project Team Leaders in project management processes, tools and techniques
    • Consults with project sponsors and reviews project proposals to determine goals, time frame, funding, allotment of resources and procedures for accomplishing projects
    • Supports and challenges project teams about the technical aspects of the solution being delivered
    • Troubleshoots problems associated with coordination, development, or design of projects. Escalates issues when critical risks arise and maintains pulse with project activities to ensure progress.
    • Directly or indirectly leads cross-functional teams to execute on project tasks to include effective creation and management of timelines, budgets, resources, risks and project objectives
    • Coaches and facilitates teams on development of process maps, value stream maps and root cause analyses


    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or a related discipline
    • 3 or more years of progressive, broad-based project management experience
    • Demonstrated ability to balance cost, quality and schedule constraints while escalating issues as needed. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and balance multiple competing priorities within and across multiple projects at the same time.
    • Demonstrated success with oral and written communications/presentations, influence and persuasion, results orientation, facilitation, and teamwork skills
    • Experience working in a matrix management organization with primary responsibility for project success while relying on a team of resources which may or may not be direct reports
    • Moderate to advanced proficiency with MS Project as well as MS Visio, Excel and PowerPoint


    • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) certification
    • Strategic planning experience
    • Experience in medical technology or related field
    • PMI Project Management certification

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time and up to 8 hours per day
    • Ability to frequently and accurately communicate with employees, customers, and vendors in person, via the telephone or by email
    • Constant walking or motion to coordinate work and interact with co-workers
