  • Summary of Major Responsibilities

    The Advocacy and Alliance Relations Director will lead the company’s relationships and interactions with leading medical organizations, advocacy groups, scientific guideline review committees and quality measurement bodies. This leadership role will develop, launch and manage campaigns that engage advocacy groups and build and maintain long-term, substantive relationships with such groups and other organizations that share our interest of helping reduce cancer mortality through innovations in screening and early detection. 

     

    As a cornerstone of the Corporate Affairs team, s/he will work closely with Exact Sciences Marketing, Government Affairs, Medical Affairs, Legal and Regulatory colleagues to lead the development of an annual comprehensive advocacy and alliance development strategy and tactical plan to advance the organization’s objectives. This includes ensuring team members are fully aligned on our corporate priorities, understanding third party priorities, and guiding team members in the execution of a strategy.  S/he will ensure Exact Sciences is viewed as a partner of choice throughout the cancer prevention community. 

     

    Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Affairs, s/he will bring a deep understanding of how to work effectively and efficiently with advocacy groups to promote the company’s interests for cancer screening and prevention. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Leads innovative strategies to drive action in cancer prevention, including building coalitions and broad partnerships.
    • Develop innovative mechanisms to engage leading external organizations, educate them about Exact Sciences, and partner with them on issues and projects of shared concern.
    • Delivers on the needs of a broad variety of external stakeholders, including patients, health care providers, employers, healthcare policymakers, and government agencies.
    • Guides the investment of company resources in external partnerships and ensures rigorous compliance with corporate and legal rules, and guidelines governing that investment.
    • Develop metrics and scorecards to monitor and measure advocacy tactics.
    • Create and collaborate with a broad constituency of internal stakeholders and departments in building and driving a cohesive strategy.
    • Works in a fast-paced environment with multiple, competing priorities, and a record of success identifying ways to improve existing processes.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience

    • Candidate must possess a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in public policy, advocacy, alliance development or public health.
    • BA or BS in communications, marketing, public relations, public policy, life sciences, or related field.
    • Master’s level degree is preferred.
    • History of working in a highly dynamic setting.
    • Experience working with and building relationships with different media channels.
    • Evidence of consistent professional progression throughout career.
    • Proven energy for uncovering key external and internal trends affecting the industry to optimize advocacy impact.
    • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills and an ability to adapt one’s approach to a challenge, as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated reputation internally and externally as a well-respected, dynamic team player.
    • Willingness to travel domestically about 25% of the time and attend “out of hours” activities and events, including – on occasion – weekends and evenings.

     Physical Requirements

    • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time and up to 8 hours per day.
    • Ability to stand for extended periods of time and up to 6 hours at a time.
