  • Summary of Major Responsibilities

    Exact Sciences is seeking a Director, Internal & Executive Communications to drive the creation and execution of a strategy to efficiently and consistently communicate across the company. As a leading member of the Corporate Affairs team, s/he will work with our Human Resources team and executive leadership to ensure employees are informed and engaged as Exact Sciences continues to grow and our pipeline of new cancer detection tests advances.


    Reporting to the Senior Director, Corporate Affairs, this is a hands-on role that will be expected to serve as a trusted business partner across multiple functions and provide a full range of executive and internal communications leadership. S/he will develop a long-term communications strategy to ensure information highlighting our corporate priorities is delivered with appropriate timing and messaging for Madison-based employees and our 500+ team members across the country. This individual must have exceptional written communication skills, an ability to quickly digest complex scientific topics, experience successfully engaging with executive teams, and a proven ability to deliver clear, succinct and accurate written content. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop an internal communications strategy and execute on this program to support our corporate mission and core values.
    • Collaborate across the organization to use existing tools and create new tools to help employees connect and stay up-to-date.
    • Take the lead preparing plans and advising executives on communications related to business milestones and all-company announcements.
    • Partner with Human Resources to create and implement effective campaigns to support change management, employee engagement and recruiting.
    • Identify performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of internal communications programs.
    • Ensure alignment between internal and external communications, and investor relations by working in tandem with other communications leaders.


    Mandatory Skills

    •  A self-starter who is comfortable crafting and implementing communications strategies for internal audiences.
    • Exceptional writing skills and the ability to write clearly for a variety of audiences.
    • Experience working collaboratively with executives to define their communication priorities and the ability to craft those communications.
    • A collaborative mindset and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
    • Ability to work quickly and under pressure when news needs to be communicated to internal audiences. 

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's of Art or Bachelor's of Science in Communication, English, Public Relations or similar discipline.
    • 10+ years of progressive experience in internal communications, corporate communications or related positions.
    • Evidence of consistent professional progression throughout career.
    • Strong business acumen with demonstrated ability to connect business objectives and communications strategies.
    • Experience in providing strategic communications counsel to senior executives and demonstrated courage to challenge positions and influence outcomes.
    • Strong interpersonal/listening and oral/written communication skills.
    • History of working for fast growing companies; experience managing and driving several projects simultaneously.
    • Proven track record of developing and maintaining relationships with individuals at all organizational levels.
    • Strong professional copywriting and editing skills for a variety of audiences/media preferred.
    • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word and PowerPoint, is required.
    • Some travel will be required.

    Preferred Skills and Experience

    •  Knowledge of health care, specifically molecular diagnostics, is preferred.
