  • Summary of Major Responsibilities

    The Systems Development Intern will assist in the assembly and testing of equipment used to automate clinical laboratory equipment used to perform in vitro diagnostic tests.  The position is intended to be a full-time summer opportunity for an engineering or science undergraduate to obtain hands-on engineering experience in laboratory automation and medical device development.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assemble automated equipment and test fixtures
    • Troubleshoot malfunctions and errors
    • Assist with testing, troubleshooting, and refinement of designs
    • Assist with writing assembly instructions
    • Recommend improvements based on test results
    • Design tests and execute under supervision of engineers
    • Program test fixtures
    • Collect and analyze data
    • Prepare and present written and oral reports


    Minimum Requirements

    • Strong observational and analytical skills
    • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Enrollment towards Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physical science in junior or senior standing

    Preferred Requirements

    • 3.5 GPA or higher

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time and up to 4 hours per day
    • Ability to work at laboratory bench up to 4 hours at a time
    • Ability to assemble/disassemble mechanical equipment
