  • Summary of Major Responsibilities

    The Systems Engineer II will assist in the development and testing of new customized instruments, equipment, and consumables to be used with in vitro diagnostic tests currently under development. This position reports into the Systems Development team in the Research & Development function.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform laboratory experiments.
    • Test prototype instrument designs.
    • Investigate process and instrument failures.
    • Design prototypes for equipment or systems.
    • Collect and analyze data.
    • Support the service of Exact Sciences-manufactured equipment or systems.
    • Prepare and present written and oral reports.
    • Execute formal test plans.
    • Work with human specimens following supplied training and protocols.
    • Some travel may be required.
    • Ability to use computers daily in an interactive manner for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to sit for an extended period of time.
    • Some travel may be required.
    • Ability to frequently and accurately communicate with team members in person, via the telephone, or by email.
    • Ability to travel between office locations in Madison, Wisconsin (approximately 8 mile radius). 


    Mandatory Skills 

    • Strong observational and analytical skills.
    • Statistical data analysis using Excel or JMP.
    • Written and oral report presentation.
    • Create and document design specifications.
    • Demonstrated ability to investigate issues/troubleshoot equipment or system failures.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical science, or related field.
    • Outstanding academic achievement with at least one year of post-graduate experience using robotics to automate laboratory test processes or designing laboratory equipment.
    • At least three years of experience in a systems engineering role with progressively increasing responsibility.
