  • Summary of Major Responsibilities

    The Network Engineer position is designed for persons with at least two years’ experience supporting the hardware and software inclusive of the local, metropolitan and wide-area networks.  The position is responsible for the problem resolution, general support, and projects related to the network infrastructure of Exact Sciences, its partners and affiliates.  The Network Engineer will act as a key technical resource for second level support and facilitation of escalated events to external expertise as required.  The position will work independently in a department with a strong customer service focus and provide input to management for process and technological improvements.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Install, support and maintain hardware and software infrastructure according to best practices, including routers, aggregators, switches, wireless controllers, and firewalls.
    • Perform network security design and integration.
    • Diagnose problems and solve issues, often under time constraints.
    • Provide network and host-based security, incident response, firewall and VPN management and administration.
    • Implement the necessary controls and procedures to protect information systems assets from intentional or inadvertent modification, disclosure, or destruction.
    • Assist in the development of guidelines and procedures for administration and security best practices
    • Provide network documentation.
    • Monitor network usage, proactively anticipate problems and suggest solutions.
    • Work closely with colleagues to meet team goals and improve processes and practices.
    • Remain current on emerging technologies via professional groups, trade magazines, internal and external training, independent research and study, and other avenues available.
    • Assist management in planning future business systems improvements.
    • Interface with external consultants in support of business systems and applications.
    • The position will report to the Senior Director of IT.
    • Ability to work in an office setting, operate telephony devices, and a computer.
    • Regular and reliable attendance.
    • Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • A. or B.S. in a technical field or a relevant combination of education and experience.
    • 5+ years of expertise in implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices, including: firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points and controllers, and monitoring applications.
    • In-depth understanding of firewall configuration and maintenance, experience with Cisco ASA equipment preferred.
    • In-depth with configuration, installation, troubleshooting, and supporting of networking equipment.
    • Ability to engineer, build, and test networks for optimum throughput and reliability.
    • Knowledgeable in application transport and network infrastructure protocols (SSL/TLS, DNS, DHCP, NTP, FTP, HTTP, SMTP, CIFS, LDAP, and Microsoft AD), and possess an understanding of how to support these applications / protocols when accessed through VPN and firewall appliances.
    • Understanding and implementation of network traffic analysis, remote access methods and systems, stateful inspection firewalls, encryption, authentication and authorization technology.
    • Hands-on technical experience working with VPN technologies (IPSEC, SSL VPN, DirectAccess, AnyConnect, etc.).
    • Willingness to mentor more junior staff members and interns.
    • Experience in a fast-paced support environment as a member of a 24x7x365 network and/or security operations team in a geographically diverse campus environment.
    • Expert-level skills with Windows and Mac Operating Systems.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to operate in a cross cultural and complex matrix environment, and ability to build consensus across functions.
    • Adaptable, open to change and able to work in ambiguous situations and respond to new information or unexpected circumstances.
    • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship. 

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Cisco Call Manager (UCS) and Cisco Contact Center Express (UCCX) experience.
    • Singlewire Informacast experience.
    • Strong oral, written, communications, and presentation skills.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Experience working on small fast paced project teams.
    • Ability to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
    • Proven ability to define user requirements and corresponding system specifications, accurate time estimates and creation of clear and concise documentation.
    • Collaborate with partners effectively.
