  • Summary of Major Responsibilities

    The Manager, Operations Business Processes -  SAP  leads a team responsible for partnering with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) in Supply Chain, Logistics, Inventory Management, Manufacturing & related Operations functions to develop and implement industry standard business processes and provide best practices solution oversight. The majority of the business process implementations and/or changes will be tied to SAP implementations and experience with SAP is required. The Manager, Operations Business Processes - SAP will be responsible for driving strategic alignment on the business process improvement roadmap within the Operations organization, as well as to closely partner with Finance, IT, Integrations, and other stakeholders to development and manage the enterprise ERP roadmap.  This role will be responsible for team members managing the day to day support and daily operations for the SAP platform as it relates to the Operations organization and will be required to collaborate with third party vendors. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Interact cross-functionally with Production, Quality Control, Supply Chain, Planning, Distribution, R&D, Finance, IT and Quality.
    • Serve as a liaison for Operations with SAP business users and IT/SAP configuration experts, internally and externally.
    • Serve in a project management capacity as needed to support key business objectives.
    • Work with leadership on supporting growing business with global SAP implementations including process and system design, integration testing, validation, user training, and post go-live support.
    • Oversee production support for end users.
    • Oversee the gathering, analyzing and documentation of business and functional requirements. Translate needs of the business into applicable system design solutions.
    • Oversee the development of solutions to meet business needs.
    • Ensure the team has the knowledge and resources needed to develop and maintain trainings.
    • Fulfill the role of business expert on SAP Master Data and provide leadership and support to personnel supporting transactions and reporting activities.
    • Mentor and oversee personnel creating bill of materials, recipes, master data, and interface with Finance personnel.
    • Mentor, guide, and develop team members to grow talent within the organization.
    • Work with SAP/IT and business areas to jointly define system requirements and define business processes where gaps exist.
    • Challenge business requirements if they would lead to unreasonable system changes (no harmonization, costs/benefit aspects).
    • Perform support of production applications by tracking problems/issues and following up with internal users.
    • Evaluate, prioritize and manage changes to the SAP system using appropriate change management processes.
    • Develop and oversee the project funnel for Operations related SAP projects.
    • Oversee first level support for SAP users and Subject Matter Experts in the Operations area.
    • Supervise staff including but not limited to organize and prioritize work, write/conduct performance reviews, train/develop, and manage work performance.
    • Communicate goals clearly to employees to ensure understanding and success in achieving them.

    • Ability and means to travel between Madison locations.
    • Ability to travel 10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in operations, supply chain, inventory, warehouse, computer science, MIS or related field; or high school diploma/general education degree and 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
    • 8+ Years of experience implementing ERP systems in an Operations or Finance role.
    • 5+ years of experience supporting Operations.
    • 3+ years of experience with the integration points of MM and PP to other SAP modules such as FI and CO.
    • 3+ years of direct leadership experience.
    • Knowledge of Computer Systems Validation or equivalent “Best Practices”.
    • Knowledge of change control as it relates to application systems.
    • Knowledge of application systems development methodology.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Visio.
    • Excellent knowledge of SAP configuration in Production Planning, Sales and Distribution, Purchasing, Materials Management, and Quality Management.
    • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
    • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in a biotech/life sciences manufacturing environment, preferably in a cGMP, ISO 13485 and/or CLIA environment.
    • Experience leading a team in a full implementation of SAP, or new modules in an existing system.
    • Experience with S/4 HANA and Fiori apps as a business user, or in technical support role.
    • Knowledge of QM module functionality as business user, or in technical support role.
    • Experience using Computer Systems Validation or equivalent best practices and of change control as it relates to application systems.
    • Familiarity with project management processes.
