The Accessioning Supervisor is responsible for supervision of personnel and daily operations of the Accessioning department including, but not limited to, specimen box receipt process, test order processing, sample processing, material return and management of associated documents and records.
The Accessioning Supervisor oversees the pre- and post-analytical sample processing activities. This role will participate in these activities and troubleshoot sample, process or system issues as needed. The Accessioning Supervisor will also participate in the development and administration of policies and procedures, contribute to continuous process improvement to ensure consistent, high quality processes, and best practices established within Laboratory Operations. This role will support or participate in internal and external audits and quality management activities to ensure laboratory compliance with the applicable quality standards and regulatory requirements.
The Accessioning Supervisor serves as a liaison between Accessioning and various functional groups including, but not limited to Histology, Customer Service, Analytical Laboratory, Process and Service Engineering, Information Technology, Human Resources, Quality, Supply Chain Management and Workplace Services groups to report and address immediate issues or concerns. This role must also act as a liaison between staff members and the management team to support effective communication and change management. The Accessioning Supervisor will assist in the assessment of staffing levels to ensure adequate laboratory capacity and effective resource allocations, and will recruit and hire new employees or contingency workers. The Accessioning Supervisor will also be responsible for the ongoing management of their staff, which include, but are not limited to, partnering with staff to create and execute personal development plans, conducting performance reviews and ensuring appropriate work scheduling, training and competency assessment.
To be successful in this complex and high-volume work environment, the Accessioning Supervisor must demonstrate leadership, operation management and organizational skills. This person must be comfortable with facilitating timely and sound decision-making with data, have the ability to remain professional and composed under pressure, the ability to work independently and in a team environment, and the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of the laboratory and across departments to achieve common goals.
