Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Accounting Lead is a technical and functional subject matter expert on the Accounting team. This role leads project teams that researches, recommends, and implements processes, and best practices which impact the entire organization.  The Accounting Advisor demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for problem solving and obtaining solutions. 

 

The Accounting Advisor will coordinate the post-acquisition and merger accounting for entities across Exact Sciences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead General Accounting projects resulting in process improvements and team efficiencies.
  • Conducts formal first level reviews of Staff and Senior's work. Examines accounting positions prepared by Staff and Seniors and proposes meaningful changes, if needed.
  • Proactively research industry best practices and understands internal system integration to make appropriate recommendations.
  • Identify Accounting issues requiring resolution, review and interpret authoritative guidance, and offer proposed conclusion.
  • Identify technology improvements and enhancements to solve problems. May be a tool/system superuser.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of accounting theories, principles and systems design. Recognize complex and unique issues and develop resolution and/or consult with leadership in order to achieve resolution; consistently serve as a technical resource. May direct others on how to interpret complex GAAP.
  • Research, analyze and ensure implementation of new and/or changing accounting and reporting systems. Provide training and consultation related to new systems and/or reporting methodology and ensure the development of related policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use and understand stakeholder feedback, business objectives and priorities.
  • Make risk assessment of systems of internal control and may approve improvements and changes.
  • Recommend actions or alternatives to be taken by management when accounting data discloses unfavorable trends or deviations or financial mismanagement.
  • Independently resolve complex problems for which no clear precedent exists within the current system or implement new accounting structures. Supervise resolution and/or implementation. May design and implement organization and program-specific accounting procedures and systems. Examine and analyze complex financial statements to influence business decisions. Institute changes based on findings.
  • Ability to maintain an agile schedule with the ability to reprioritize work of self and collaborators as needed and new tasks develop.
  • Builds trust as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan for the future by evaluating how current processes and procedures can scale. Prepares well thought out solutions to gaps identified and advocates for those solutions to leadership. 
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
  • Networks and builds relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.

  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work designated schedule.
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.
  • Ability and means to travel between Madison locations.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field.
  • 6+ years Accounting experience.
  • Basic computer skills to include Internet navigation, Email usage, and word processing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • 1+ year(s) experience with working with SAP.
