Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Facilities Engineer will provide engineering support and document changes to existing and new qualified and non-qualified systems in support of infrastructure and production. This role will act as system administrator for building automation systems maintaining settings, sequences, alarm management, and developing improvement opportunities. The Facilities Engineer will guide system design by quantifying requirements, calculating required capacities, reviewing drawings, and working with third-party designers. The ideal candidate has a strong background with facility systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire, and refrigeration, as well as a background in control systems design and administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support to existing and new qualified and non-qualified building mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and production support utilities.
  • Act as a resource for Facilities personnel for building system and utility operation troubleshooting.
  • Utilize engineering expertise to train users, update control software, and plan system upgrades/modifications.
  • Perform engineering calculations to troubleshoot system operation and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and performance.
  • Maintain building automation systems in a manner to ensure performance continually meets environmental requirements and root cause analysis results in the elimination of system-driven excursions.
  • Manage the system to provide meaningful warning of system or equipment failure and eliminate nuisance alarms.
  • Monitor building systems operation for energy usage, suggest improvement opportunities, and implement as approved.
  • Maintain all record drawings; including project records and current as-builts, specifications, and capacity calculations.
  • Support Facilities by creating statements of work, performing engineering calculations to size equipment, assisting with vendor proposal evaluation, and overseeing technical aspects of installations or modifications.
  • Process owner for revision changes on existing qualified systems following change control requirements.
  • Prioritize, plan, and drive projects to completion through disciplined project management methodology and tools.
  • Participate in investigations and troubleshooting associated with CAPAs, audits, or complaints in a cGMP working environment.

  • Ability to work normal schedule of Monday through Friday during normal business hours.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work seated for approximately 50% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 50% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability and means to travel between Madison Exact Sciences locations.
  • Ability to travel 5% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.
  • Ability to work designated schedule.
  • Ability to climb ladders and effectively access equipment and areas of buildings that include traversing unlevel surfaces and entering hot, cold, dirty, dusty, and loud environments.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 1+ years of professional experience in an engineering role with progressively increasing responsibility; internships, project work or co-op assignments are included.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel macros and pivot tables and Word mail merge.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an FDA, CLIA, or CAP regulated industry preferred.
  • Experience with building systems such as HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection.
  • Experience with BAS software such as Automated Logic and Ecostruxure.
