Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Assistant General Counsel, Employee Compensation and Benefits will provide legal counsel on employee compensation and benefits matters, including, but not limited to, advising on compliance, risk management, and design considerations for the Company’s health and welfare plans, 401K plan, compensation programs, and employee wellness initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure full compliance for the Company’s health and welfare plans, compensation programs, and employee wellness initiatives.
  • Draft plan documents and updates.
  • Oversee preparation and advise on all filing requirements, such as 1095, SAR, 5500 filings, and non-discrimination testing.
  • Oversee and support internal or external audits for plans.
  • Review and/or draft employee communications on wellness, benefits, and compensation matters.
  • Support request for proposal (RFP) process and review, revise, and negotiate agreements with benefits providers.
  • Support compliant, efficient, and employee-friendly administration of benefits programs.
  • Advise on governance of benefits-related committees.
  • Support any due diligence and/or integration activities in the areas of employee benefits and compensation.
  • Conduct internal training for Human Resources and other relevant departments on issues of benefits and compensation compliance.
  • Oversee outside counsel support on compensation and benefits matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organization, attention to detail, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively to those unfamiliar with legal terminology.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously within defined timelines and to prioritize when necessary.
  • Adaptable, open to change, and ability to work in ambiguous situations and respond to new information and unanticipated circumstances.

  • Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • 3+ years of experience practicing compensation and benefits law in private practice, in-house, or consulting/brokerage firm.
  • Possession of an active license to practice law at time of hire and maintain throughout employment in position.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience practicing compensation and benefits law in private practice, in-house, or consulting/brokerage firm.
  • Experience conducting due diligence and supporting integrations on compensation and benefits matters.
