Summary of Major Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Privacy professional to join the Exact Sciences Privacy Office to partner with the laboratory and commercial business to embed privacy-by-design while creating policies and procedures to mitigate privacy risk. You'll work across marketing, technology, innovation, and R&D, to mention a few, to drive enterprise privacy initiatives, help create privacy-focused culture, educate stakeholders on why privacy matters, and how we can use data in an ethical way to build trust with our patients and consumers.


This position can be located in our Redwood City, CA office or remote. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on the privacy implications of new products and procedures.
  • Work with IT, business, legal, product managers, researchers, and others to help interdisciplinary teams integrate and mitigate privacy risk.
  • Serve as a practical internal privacy resource for Exact Sciences business teams.
  • Develop and maintain expert-level awareness of privacy legislation and policy frameworks that are impactful to Exact Sciences.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Exact Sciences privacy program and other related policies to protect protected health information and personal information under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other relevant privacy laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain privacy reporting and auditing systems.
  • Review privacy and data sharing agreements.
  • Conduct investigations and document results and action plans.
  • Monitor changes proactively in the applicable HIPAA privacy laws and government regulations; serves as HIPAA privacy law resource for Exact Sciences.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external experts from multiple disciplines.
  • Help the team to identify and articulate the privacy impact of projects to include benefits, risks, and change management considerations.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize cross-functional projects.
  • Adept with influencing and persuasion.
  • Ability to work independently while appropriately escalating issues when critical risks arise and maintain pulse with project activities to ensure progress.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a highly matrixed global organization.

  • Ability to work designated schedule.
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 80% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to travel 10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree or MBA degree; or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or other field related to job duties and 2 years of Privacy or other related experience in lieu of Juris Doctor or MBA degree.
  • CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional) qualified; or 6+ years of Privacy focused experience to include International Privacy framework management (GDPR focused), Privacy Investigations, creating Privacy training to educate and drive compliance, and Privacy Policy and Procedure development.
  • 3+ years working in a business-facing project management role.
  • Expert knowledge of HIPAA privacy law.
  • Familiarity with developing and managing a Data Life Cycle program.
  • Familiarity with Data De-identification Program management.
  • Demonstrated success with oral and written communications/presentations.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
