The Clinical Laboratory Scientist I is responsible for performing high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, interpreting and reporting patient results, performing quality control and quality assurance procedures and complying with all applicable local, state and federal laboratory requirements.

The high complexity nature of the work requires excellent attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills, the ability to multi-task and be flexible with tasks and schedules and the ability to work independently in a team environment.

Duration: Approximately 6-12 months. 

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 3:00pm - 11:30pm shift

• Perform laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedures.
• Perform, review, and document laboratory quality control procedures.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Prepare reagents required for laboratory testing.
• Review, interpret, and report patient results.
• Independently identify and troubleshoot basic problems that adversely affect test performance.
• Supervise unlicensed laboratory personnel.
• Assist with training new laboratory personnel on current and new procedures as needed.
• Maintain sufficient inventory of laboratory supplies for daily operations.
• Participate in testing and validation of new laboratory equipment and procedures as needed.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and non-laboratory personnel.
• Maintain stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results and/or employee safety, and communicating these to the appropriate management representatives as necessary for resolution.
• Perform quality assurance activities for internal audits and inspection preparation.

• Considerable amount of time using various types of laboratory equipment, including pipettes.
• May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
• Some time spent using near vision to view samples at close range.
• Use of various chemicals may be used to perform duties.
• Use of computer and some time may be spent concentrating, reading, or analyzing data, or applying scientific rules.
• May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, blood or blood products and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Chemical or biological sciences; or Military Education equivalent.
• Possess a valid California CLS/CGMBS license or CGMBS Trainee license with training hours completed at Exact Sciences.
• Completion of a CLS, CGMBS, or equivalent training program at an accredited institution.
• Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laboratory regulations.
• Strong computer skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Possess a valid California CLS License.
• Offer of this role is contingent on you successfully passing the American Society for Clinical Pathology board exam and receiving your CA state Clinical Laboratory Scientist license by timeline determined by the company.
• High volume laboratory experience.
• Training in molecular biology techniques.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, Excel, Power Point, Word.
• Previous experience with laboratory automation.
• Previous experience working with LIMS.
