Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Senior Manager, Cost Accounting leads a team of professionals in general accounting to achieve business objectives and results, and develop the skills, knowledge, and abilities of individuals on the team.

 

The primary focus of this role is cost accounting and developing, maintaining and improving inventory and cost accounting processes. This position will be responsible for ensuring accurate standard costs for raw materials, work in progress and finished goods, taking into consideration all relevant costs including and labor and overhead rates. The responsibility will also include month-end, quarter-end, and the year-end close process as related to COGS and Inventory in accordance with the company’s internal control procedures. This role will establish close working relationships with operations teams to analyze inventory for potential excess and obsolete reserves and approve related journal entries in accordance with the company’s policies. The role will also include execution of various finance and accounting system implementation and build-out projects, as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute upon functional team strategy to support and align to the company’s strategic vision and goals.

  • Implement strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Lead the development, modification, and execution of process and/or policies that affect immediate operations and may also have company-wide effect.

  • Supervise staff; including, but not limited to, organize and prioritize work, write/conduct performance reviews, train/develop, and manage work performance.

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.
  • Ability and means to travel between Madison locations.
  • Ability to travel 20% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or field as outlined in the essential duties.
  • 8+ years of experience working in accounting.
  • 4+ years of experience leading or directing people and/or project teams.
  • Possession of active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification at time of hire and maintain throughout employment in position.
  • Solid computer skills to include Internet navigation, Email usage, and word processing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP.
  • 5+ years experience with standard costing, manufacturing variances, overhead absorption across multiple foreign and domestic operating locations.
  • Detailed experience with inventory and COGS accounts reconciliations and related accounting.
  • Experience working in high-growth and fast paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, accounting principles, internal controls, and financial reporting.
