Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Laboratory Support Services (LSS) Specialist will perform their duties under the guided direction of the department supervisor or designee. This position is responsible for the resolution of test order exception issues that arise during or after the order entry process and other duties as assigned. The Laboratory Support Services Specialist will occasionally work cross-functionally both internally and externally to support issue resolution. This position will follow all outlined departmental policies, processes, and procedures to fulfill their defined role. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Resolve test order exceptions for Exact Sciences Laboratories to facilitate punctual and accurate test ordering.
  • Utilize different exception handling queues in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system and third-party programs, as needed, to resolve order issues.
  • Serve as a member of project teams, as needed.
  • Merge and unmerge and troubleshoot patient account data, as appropriate.
  • Utilize file management software; including Adobe Acrobat.
  • Act as resource to team members on order entry related processes.
  • In collaboration with leadership, support cross-training of peers, and maintain turnaround time expectation for department.
  • Write processes for management and training documents to improve daily workflows.
  • Work with the specially identified Exception Handling Workflow team to ensure proper follow-up is completed for each document.
  • Work cross-functionally with other team members to establish appropriate workflows for order resolution.
  • Perform Laboratory Order Associate duties, as needed, if business warrants.
  • Complete all assigned job duties in a timely and productive manner.

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 90% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • You will be required to successfully complete an assessment showing understanding of Exact Sciences Epic processes necessary to the job functions with a score of 80% or higher. Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • 1+ years of experience working in a medical data entry environment utilizing EMR systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate multiple systems within order workflow and manipulate files into PDF.
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems related to overall workflow processes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA Laws.
  • Proficient in multiple computer systems; including Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Epic, and Onbase.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of laboratory terminology.
  • Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology, medical billing, and insurance terms.
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat.
