Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Associate Director, Product Lifecycle Management – GEM ExTra is responsible for product management and lifecycle strategy of GEM ExTra, a whole exome and whole transcriptome sequencing product for therapy selection. This position is responsible for the product definition, intended use, market/stakeholder requirements, market entry roadmap, and marketing strategies of on-market products to enable continued growth and evolution over its lifecycle.  The Associate Director, Product Lifecycle Management – GEM ExTra will identify indication expansion opportunities, develop product enhancement roadmaps, build business cases, develop evidence generation strategies, and prioritize investments. This position will also be responsible for product management tactics; including, but not limited to, implementation of test requisition forms, seamless integration of new products into the order-to-reports infrastructure, report design and updates, management of specimen collection and transport kit boxes, and execution of product enhancements/ expansions. This position will accomplish these strategic and tactical tasks by relying on a deep understanding and knowledge of customer needs, market trends, and competitive pressures, as well as establish short and long-term objectives and plans that transform the product strategy into clear measurable results.


In addition, this position is responsible for the development and executions of strategic and tactical marketing plans to support our Biopharma business development (BD) team and BioPharma customers for WES/ WTS products (research use only (RUO) and investigational use only (IUO)). This includes, but is not limited to, product launch planning and execution, brand marketing, product positioning, messaging, promotional programs and campaigns, collateral development, website content, tradeshow/ conference planning, and budget management.


The Associate Director, Product Lifecycle Management – GEM ExTra will drive the team towards execution of these plans and will accomplish tasks through interactions with a broad range of functions involved with the development and commercialization of Exact Sciences products. The Associate Director, Product Lifecycle Management – GEM ExTra should enjoy and flourish working in an ever-changing environment and be able to maintain composure and poise in sometimes-hectic situations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maximize the value of precision oncology’s WES product lines by co-development and maintenance of the long-term product strategy and business plan for the product.
  • Develop a multi-generational product roadmap and product-level profit and loss statements.
  • Contribute to the development of a five-year strategic brand plan for on-market products.
  • Analyze and incorporate the impact of key market and clinical trends, customer needs, and competitive offerings to inform the development of differentiated product roadmaps and new product features and functionalities.
  • Provide product management leadership, from concept to commercialization.
  • Act as an integral member of a small cross-functional product development leadership team.
  • Act as a leading voice of customer research, product definition, product features, and performance requirements and tradeoffs, product value proposition, and business case.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure success of the development and commercialization of the product.
  • Develop and execute strategic and tactical marketing plans to support BioPharma BD team and for BioPharma customers for WES products.
  • Identify expansion opportunities, develop evidence generation strategies, in collaboration with cross-functional teams, build business cases, and prioritize investments.
  • Manage total product lifecycle; use data-driven insights to lead programs that increase profitability in the areas of process improvements, enhanced customer experience, and cost of goods sold (COGS) management.
  • Manage the product throughout its lifecycle; including, but not limited to, recommendations regarding iterations and next generation development requirements.
  • Implement product management activities; including, but not limited to, updates to the requisition form, report design/output, and specimen collection kit boxes.
  • Design, develop, and implement promotional materials, campaigns, and programs targeted to BioPharma customers.
  • Act as the marketing lead for the review and approval of promotional materials for BioPharma customers.
  • Collaborate with and influence varying levels of internal and external parties with a strong team-focused approach.

  • Ability and means to travel between Redwood City locations.
  • Ability to travel 20% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences or related field as outlined in the essential duties.
  • 8+ years of experience working in product development and/or commercialization; including, but not limited to, product management or marketing in the diagnostic or BioPharma fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and articulate a strong product vision and strategy and carry it all the way to tactical planning and successful execution in a dynamic marketplace.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively distill a large amount of complex customer, clinical, market, and technical data from multiple sources into a clear product value proposition.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively articulate and communicate value proposition to a range of customer and internal audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve product line goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships and resolve conflict within teams.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Life Sciences, Business Administration, or related field as outlined in the essential duties.
  • Experience with clinical next-generation sequencing (NGS) for oncology testing.
  • Experience in downstream marketing.
  • Experience with driving clinical adoption and reimbursement of value-based diagnostics through clinical and economic impact studies.
