Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Molecular Technologist II requires the knowledge and ability to perform routine and advanced molecular diagnostic technical laboratory procedures, adhering to Exact Sciences’ HIPAA policies and procedures.  May occasionally provide technical guidance to junior staff. 


This laboratory opportunity will be for Tuesday-Saturday.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Competently carry out the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing according to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform testing for the downstream molecular analysis of disease using advanced techniques and equipment according to the SOPs.
  • Maintain detailed records of testing and any corrective actions in adherence to CLIA regulations; escalate errors to the Supervisor prior to implementation.
  • Calibrate and perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning according to the SOPs.
  • Perform quality control procedures; review and report resulting data and maintain result records according to the SOPs.
  • Perform proficiency testing for assigned tests and equipment and record and maintain records of performance and outcomes according to the SOPs.
  • Assist in daily functioning responsibilities and performance of general laboratory duties expected of maintaining a CLIA certified molecular pathology laboratory, as requested.
  • Participate in lab meetings and generate ideas for improving efficiency and productivity for the lab operations.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff members, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Biological or Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • 2+ years of experience in molecular diagnostics to include DNA Isolation, PCR, Real Time PCR, or sequencing.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in next-generation sequencing (NGS).
  • Ability to work designated schedule.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, pipettes for extended periods of time.
  • May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
  • Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.
