Summary of Major Responsibilities

The Supervisor, Research Project Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating research project activities and leading cross-functional strategic initiatives, while working with the business, to follow best practices to ensure their projects meet business objectives are accomplished on time and within budget.  This role helps ensure that project goals are accomplished and in line with business objectives.  This position provides leadership to a team of project coordinators by working to define clear and realistic goals, clears barriers to success, and understands the skills and tasks associated with successful execution. This person will support advanced research and technologies activities across multiple Exact locations as well as coordinate internal and external collaborative research activities, specimen collection projects, timelines, priorities, and study-related specimen selection and transport across multiple locations.  This person is also responsible for supporting a collaborative environment that promotes positive teamwork where all members are working for the good of Exact Sciences. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acts as a business partner to directly or indirectly lead cross-functional teams to execute on project tasks to include effective creation and management of timelines, budgets, resources, risks, interdependencies, and project objectives.
  • Develops, manages, and executes research timelines and proposes resource allocations by working effectively with team and through strong project management.
  • Follows established project management practices to include management of scope, requirements, issues, and risks.
  • Consults with project sponsors and reviews project proposals to determine goals, time frame, funding, and allotment of resources and procedures for accomplishing projects.
  • Directs and coordinates responsibilities and scope of authority to team members.
  • Troubleshoots problems associated with coordination, development, or design of projects.
  • Escalates issues when critical risks arise and maintains a pulse with project activities to ensure progress.
  • Monitors and prepares status reports on project deliverables and any deviation from project plan.
  • Advises on the right level of governance by project and program.
  • Coaches and facilitates teams on project management processes, tools, and techniques, such as process maps, value stream maps, and root cause analyses.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with stakeholders and team members.
  • Supervises staff; including, but not limited to, organize and prioritize work, write/conduct performance reviews, train/develop, and manage work performance.
  • Communicates goals clearly to employees to ensure understanding and success in achieving them.
  • Motivates and inspires employees to do their best work through coaching.
  • Maintains morale and supports employee engagement initiatives.
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple competing priorities within and across multiple projects at the same time; result orientated.
  • Successful oral and written communication and presentations; ability to influence and persuade.

  • Ability and means to travel between Exact Sciences locations.
  • Ability to travel 20% of working time away from work location, may include international and overnight/weekend travel.



Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, molecular biology, biochemistry, or field related to essential duties of job.
  • 5+ years of progressive, broad-based project experience.
  • 4+ years of experience post Bachelor’s in the field of life science research.
  • Hands-on lab experience in common molecular biology techniques such as blood processing, PCR, and nucleic acid purification.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance cost, quality, and schedule constraints while escalating issues. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the Essential Duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences and 2+ years of experience conducting experiments in a lab setting.
  • Experience is using statistical software such as JMP SAS and Excel.
  • Understanding of oncology terms and capability of reading/understanding clinical record files.
