The Laboratory Technician in Histology is responsible for assisting the Histotechnologists and Pathologists and supporting the daily operations of the Histology Laboratory.   He or she has demonstrated the skills and competency to work in high throughput production environment, the ability to assist the Histotechnologists, Pathologists or other laboratory personnel in manual and automated processing steps and all other support functions, a good understanding of laboratory workflow to address laboratory needs and issues, and the initiatives to contribute to laboratory projects.  The Laboratory technician may serve as a lead to the Laboratory Assistant team to coordinate tasks and divide workload as assigned.  He or she may review and organize documents, and participate in studies, process and quality improvement activities as assigned.   The nature of the work requires excellent attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication skills, the ability to multi-task and be flexible with tasks and schedules, and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.   This temporary Lab Technician position may support the Accessioning department to assist with their processes to further support Clinical Lab operations.

The Mission of the Precision Oncology Business Unit of Exact Sciences is to transform treatment decisions and outcomes in cancer by delivering clinically actionable diagnostics, both as in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) devices and as Laboratory Developed Tests (LDTs) conducted in our Redwood City Clinical Laboratory. Reporting to the Director of Systems Engineering, the Senior Device and Process Systems Engineer will provide technical expertise, vision and leadership to drive continuous improvement of our state-of-the-art diagnostic tests for cancer patients.   The Senior Device and Process Systems Engineer will lead projects to innovate, analyze, design, and implement improved business processes and laboratory workflows for diagnostic tests conducted in our Clinical Laboratory. Beginning with analysis of the business process requirements, these process design and integration efforts will encompass the generation and collection of requirements, design and architecture, incorporation of applicable automation technologies, integration of multiple subsystems, and end-to-end testing.    Representing Lab Operations, the successful candidate will also be a key member on project teams developing new IVD devices and laboratory automations, ensuring their efficient and effective transfer into production, and will also contribute to ongoing improvements of existing commercialized processes and products.   It is critical that the candidate has strong expertise in medical device quality standards and regulations, including ISO13485, ISO14971, 21CFR Part 820, and experience in the operationalization of new diagnostic and/or medical devices. Demonstrated ability to effectively execute multiple projects simultaneously with Lean Methodology is required. Experience with business process analysis and design is required, ideally including experience with order to revenue processes.

Reporting to the VP of Technical Service & Support, the Senior Director, Laboratory System Development will lead the Process Engineering department, which includes Process Development, Process Validation, and Systems Engineering teams.  This role will create, champion, and execute strategies to continually optimize the operational capabilities of the Exact Sciences Clinical Laboratory within our Precision Oncology Business Unit.  These efforts will drive continuous improvement in scalability, efficiency, quality, cost, and business continuity.   The successful candidate will oversee this group’s continuing pivotal role in creating robust, scalable cost-effective laboratory processes for ongoing use in commercial patient sample testing.  The Senior Director, Laboratory System Development will implement best engineering management and organizational development practices as the number, complexity, and diversity of this group’s projects continue to expand.  These projects include the exploration, development, validation, and implementation of new and/or improved clinical diagnostic testing processes, and the investigation, root cause analysis, and resolution of issues that arise in this production laboratory environment.  The Senior Director, Laboratory System Development will ensure alignment of this team’s efforts with Exact Sciences strategic priorities, carefully balancing continuous process improvement efforts with new product development efforts conducted in partnership with our R&D team.  This role will also ensure effective collaboration with the Service Engineering function, providing support for investigation of complex issues escalated by the Service Engineering team.   The Director, Laboratory System Development will foster and facilitate the professional growth and development of our engineering staff and will ensure effective cross-functional collaboration across the organization. This role will be accountable for building organizational capability within the team by recruiting and retaining outstanding talent and providing mentoring, training (internal and external), and other opportunities for professional growth and development. This role will drive continuous improvement in our operating mechanisms for managing, documenting, staffing, and reviewing laboratory improvement projects.  The Director, Laboratory System Development will collaborate with other leaders in Clinical Laboratory Operations, other Operations groups, IT, R&D, and other functions to implement harmonized engineering change control and design control practices.    The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in successful direct management of experienced engineering leaders and teams engaged in the design, development, and continuous improvement of robust, scalable, high-throughput, and automated production processes for generation of genomic and/or genetic data for clinical diagnostic use.  This role will have a track record of success in building expert, collaborative and inspired engineering organizations to consistently deliver the processes, technologies, and systems required for success.

The Associate Director, Pre-Analytical Laboratory Services will oversee the operations of Genomic Health’s Accessioning department to ensure scalability and consistent quality of pre-analytical laboratory operations. This individual will ensure the pre and post-analytical order and sample processing systems are functioning properly and consistently achieving turnaround time targets, accessioning personnel conducts all quality-related activities as specified in the Quality Management System, and the department meets regulatory compliance and service quality. The Associate Director will lead the Accessioning department and cross-functional teams through projects and improvement activities that contribute directly to Genomic Health’s key results, ensuring budgets, project schedules, and business requirements are met.   The Associate Director, Pre-Analytical Laboratory Services will provide leadership to the Accessioning team, continue to foster and facilitate the professional growth and development of laboratory support staff, and ensure that staff has the required technical skills, knowledge, capacity and passion for providing superb service to our customers. He or she will ensure staff engagement through active management, team building, and effective communication to create a culture of accountability. The successful candidate will partner with Histology, Analytical Laboratory, Pathology, Quality, Information Technology, Process and Service Engineering, US and International Customer Services, and others to continually improve quality and service and achieve performance targets. The Associate Director will also participate in cross-functional teams that improve the infrastructure, workflow, and processes throughout our Clinical Laboratory to accommodate rapidly growing assay volumes, an expanding test menu, introduction of new technologies and business models, expansion to multiple laboratory sites, and continuous changes in the external regulatory landscape. He or she will consult with Quality and provide guidance to the Accessioning team to address non-conformances, complaints, and CAPAs within Genomic Health’s Clinical Laboratory. The Associate Director, Pre-Analytical Laboratory will oversee the inspection preparation activities within the Accessioning department’s scope of practice and ensure that all applicable regulatory requirements are met with evidence of compliance. The Associate Director will contribute to a successful inspection by interacting with the inspectors and leading operational discussions as assigned.   The Associate Director, Pre-Analytical Laboratory will interact with senior management on matters concerning Clinical Laboratory services and/or customers. The Associate Director will act as a liaison between Accessioning and various functional groups including but not limited to Histology, US and International Customer Services, Quality, Analytical Laboratory, Process and Service Engineering, Information Technology, Supply Chain Management, Workplace Services, and Pathology groups when addressing multi-disciplinary projects or issues.   In order to be successful in this highly complex work environment, the ideal candidate must demonstrate leadership, operational management, and organizational skills. He or she must have the ability to analyze complex issues and exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies, influence effectively to create synergy or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations, and plan and manage multiple changing priories.
